The podcast “No Dogs in Space” is fun for music lovers, by the way. Been listening to their series on The Ramones while driving to and fro on fieldwork this week. As a result, I have SO MANY Ramones songs in my head! The band somewhat suffers from all their songs sounding similar, with fast BPM and jammy guitar.

But so many of the songs are earworms.

    Punk nostalgia ^-^

..ah the days when NOFX, Misfits and Blood for Blood had a real following.

Check out the Japanese pop punk horror rock band Balzac. Especially if you're a fan of the Misfits. (Also check out Danzig's more metal solo work, of course.) They own the "whoa-oh-ohh" more than any country singer ever could.

    Balzac - Wall

Balzac - I See Nothing, Hear Nothing

    Balzac - Monster II

Instead of editing my previous post, I want to add a new reply.

Stray covers Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You" (audio)

Ghostlike. It reminds me strongly of where and when I was first listening. Winter. In severe pain with my chronic pain condition, trying to study mammalian neuroanatomy for university. Feeling like a stranger in my own neighborhood. Physically collapsing into the snow at the park because the pain of cold anesthetized me. I remember wearing an iPod on my wrist.

It feels dissociative. I was, and sometimes still am.

I want to hope when I feel nothing

    Stray - Abuse By Proxy

Cyberpunk electropop. Upbeat despite itself. The memories! And the drama! It's good, though. I can't vouch for her other songs, but I adore this one. I had to figure out the lyrics by ear, by myself. It's not all available.

The lights of the city integrate
This (something, something, something) wait [this is infuriating!]

    3:38

Bad DJ CJ interprets the lyrics thus:

I am burnt, I am decayed
    Broken right before your eyes
    And my friend and confidante
    You must try to understand

    In this blissful isolation
I'll be free from our salvation
And I don't need your healing hands
Then it means I don't need you

    Devo - Beautiful World

    "It's a beautiful world . . . for you."

Watch the video. If you listen to the audio alone, it ends up as a purely happy sensory experience, and that's just so wrong.

I didn't listen to the OtherCon radio at all during the con, but I've been enjoying listening to the playlist this past week. It's a great mix of different kinds of music but all with nonhuman feels.

The original is great, but I really like this cover.
